Technical assistance to small businesses is a priority of Drum Country. Drum Country is home to two Small Business Development Centers, or SBDCs – Watertown and Canton. Funded in part through the U.S. Small Business Administration, SBDCs provide free and confidential assistance to start-up or expanding businesses in preparation of a business plan or financial projections. They not only provide one-on-one counseling but training seminars on a vast variety of small business topics like accounting, marketing, and procurement, to name a few.

Funded in part through the United States Congress through a partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, SBDCs provide free and confidential assistance to start-up or expanding businesses in preparation of a business plan or financial projections.
Small business owners and aspiring entrepreneurs can go to their local SBDCs for free face-to-face business consulting. In addition, their SBDC will also offer at-cost training on topics including business planning, accounting, procurement, accessing capital, marketing, regulatory compliance, technology development, international trade and much more.
Drum Country is also home to the North Country Procurement Technical Assistance Center, or PTAC. The PTAC is an initiative of the Defense Logistics Agency, Development Authority of the North Country, New York Business Development Corporation, and the Fort Drum Regional Liaison Organization. Staff at the PTAC assists businesses with identifying contracting opportunities with the government. The PTAC offers counseling, electronic bid matching, classes and training seminars, and access to electronic bulletin boards, regulations and guides.
