
Larger Fowler Graphite Deposit Could Mean Over 100 New Jobs at Mine
April 24, 2026WATERTOWN — Fort Drum continues to be a major economic driver in the north country according to reports published on Thursday by Advocate Drum and Fort Drum itself.
Advocate Drum reports that Fort Drum’s total 2025 impact on the local economy is $2.48 billion, which includes $2 billion in direct spending, plus $482 million in additional economic activity in Jefferson, Lewis and St. Lawrence counties.
“The model we use allows us to capture a clear economic impact of Fort Drum on the three-county region that surrounds the installation. The results are quite clear, Fort Drum is a vital part of this community, as is the community to Fort Drum,” David J. Zembiec, chair of the Advocate Drum board of directors, said in a news release.
